Nonreciprocal optical response in parity-breaking superconductors

چکیده

Superconductivity, an emergence of a macroscopic quantum state, gives rise to unique electromagnetic responses leading perfect shielding magnetic field and zero electrical resistance. In this paper, we propose that superconductors with the space-inversion symmetry breaking host giant nonreciprocal optical phenomena, such as photocurrent generation second harmonic generation. The show divergent behaviors in low-frequency regime originate from two-fold indicators parity-breaking superconductors, namely, superfluid density Berry curvature derivative. Furthermore, mechanism frequency dependence are closely tied preserved temporal superconductor. relation is useful for probing space-time structure superconducting symmetry. characterize property hence quantify performance optics.

Nonreciprocal charge transport in noncentrosymmetric superconductors

Lack of spatial inversion symmetry in crystals offers a rich variety of physical phenomena, such as ferroelectricity and nonlinear optical effects (for example, second harmonic generation). One such phenomenon is magnetochiral anisotropy, where the electrical resistance depends on the current direction under the external magnetic field. We demonstrate both experimentally and theoretically that ...

Atomically thin nonreciprocal optical isolation

Optical isolators will play a critical role in next-generation photonic circuits, but their on-chip integration requires miniaturization with suitable nonreciprocal photonic materials. Here, we theoretically demonstrate the thinnest possible and polarization-selective nonreciprocal isolation for circularly polarized waves by using graphene monolayer under an external magnetic field. The underly...

Parity breaking and phase transition induced by a magnetic field in superconductors

We suggest that the 2+1 dimensional Gross–Neveu model can give an effective field theory description of low-energy quasiparticles in high temperature superconductors. The magnetic catalysis of dynamical symmetry breaking is examined. The model shows that a magnetic field can induce a phase transition associated with parity breaking. In particular, it is intended to give an explanation of a seco...

Parity Breaking in Nematic Tactoids

We theoretically investigate under what conditions the director field in a spindle-shaped nematic droplet or tactoid obtains a twisted, parity-broken structure. By minimizing the sum of the bulk elastic and surface energies, we show that a twisted director field is stable if the twist and bend elastic constants are small enough compared to the splay elastic constant, but only if the droplet vol...
